Grammy Update #1

Grammy’s health has been slowly improving. I went to see her this morning and of the 8 pumps of drugs she was on to maintain her blood pressure and pain, she is down to three (I think one of them is pain medication). The respiratory therapist was in her room when I was there and he said they were going to work on getting her off the ventilator and getting her breathing on her own.

When The Momma talked to her doctors today after I had left, they all said that Grammy is “a special case” and they are amazed that she is still here and improving. None of them thought she would pull through and they are all excited to get to talk with her once the breathing and feeding tubes are removed.

The physical and occupational therapists were in to see her today. When I called for an update, they asked me questions about how Grammy lives and how independent she is. They are talking about having her try sitting on the edge of her bed today, but she is still pretty weak. It blows my mind that they are talking about even getting her out of bed, even just for a little bit, so soon!

I know it sounds terribly cliché, but I really do feel like a big chunk of the enormous weight that has been pressing down on me has been relieved from my heart. To hear that the doctors are so impressed at Grammy’s recovery from an event that should have been the end has given me and The Momma a warm, reassuring feeling. It will be a long road from here, but we are shifting mindsets now to healing. I can’t wait to tell Grammy that I love her and to hear her say she loves me back.

Thank you so much for your love, prayers, happy thoughts for all of us. More updates to come…
