The new life begins

Today is my second full day in Boston. After an infuriating 2 hour delay on the tarmac of the Portland airport, a missed connection to Boston and the later flight that left three hours after my original departure time and three hours after I was supposed to arrive in Boston, I was finally at the casa de Maegan at a quarter to midnight. But I made it!

Mae lives in Cambridge which is just north of Boston proper in a pretty neat-o house with two roommates, one of which I worked with as a Corps Member in Beaumont, TX (she was from the Denver campus). I have not yet met the third roommate. Mae and Katie (the Denver NCCC alum) have been wonderful. I feel right at home, except for the fact that I sleep on the couch. I will hopefully be looking at some places to live this week.

I have not yet ventured to Boston. The subway line that I will be taking to Jumpstart is just a 15 min. walk from the house. Sometime this week I will take a test-run of the commute to see how long it will take to get there. Yesterday and today I wandered around a bit, drank coffee (Dunkin Donuts for all my east coast homies) and people watched.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous or scared to be here on my own. I've never been as truly independent as I am right now. Several times I day I need to take a deep breath, close my eyes and remind myself that I am going to be just fine. Hopefully as the days and weeks pass, I'll need to do that less often. Life is sweet, remember?
