Hi friends! I am sitting in my dorm room on the NCCC campus in Sacramento. This is the first time in a long time that I have had time to rest and not do stuff all week. It seems like I have barely stopped to breath since I got off the plane in Sac on Tuesday. I'll back up a bit and tell you about the week.
Tuesday, Kevin and Gabe drove me to the airport in Houston so I could fly to Sacramento to begin Team Leader Training (TLT). It was sad saying goodbye to those two guys and I am glad that they are the ones who drove me the two hours it takes to get to Houston from Port Arthur. I flew into San Francisco, yep the San Francisco that is 84 miles from Sac, and was supposed to have a two hour layover and then fly to Sac. Two hours turned into four hours. Oh well, that's life. I am very fortunate so far that this was my first major pain in the butt with airline travel.
Anyway, I got to the Sacramento campus Tuesday afternoon, got all my uniform pants, but only one shirt which was the last one they had left (I will be getting more once the order comes in). I met my roommate, Rachel and started unpacking. I finally finished unpacking what I brought from Texas as well as the stuff I had left here before going to the Gulf today. Wed., Thurs., and Friday were classroom trainings and getting to know you activities as well as the physicals and driving tests. The evenings have consisted of going to the bar and coming home later than I really should. Last night I had some delicious sushi with a bunch of team leaders and laughed so much I almost peed my pants.
I'm excited to find out which unit leader I will be working with. As I mentioned before, my job is being a support team leader, or STL. I will work with one of five unit leaders (one unit = 7 or 8 teams) with making sure the teams have everything they need, recording their hours onto the computer, getting stuff out to them when they are on projects, and just generally being the gal friday to the unit leader. The reason I don't know which unit leader I'm working for is that just before we got here they hired two new unit leaders. They want me and another STL to get to know Meg and Ben (the unit leaders) and let them choose who they want to work with. I wouldn't mind working with either of them. On Monday night the other STL, Elana, and I are going to get together with Meg and Ben and let them get to know us better. OH, get this...Elana and I both went to UofO and were in some of the same journalism classes! She was a comm. minor when I was doing PR stuff and we even graduated the same year. Small freakin' world, huh?
I can't think of anything more exciting than taking a nap right now. I better enjoy these times I have for naps before my life becomes crazygonuts with trainings and such. I'm on the west coast now, so you can give me a call with pacific daylight time in mind. Love and miss!
