Hey friends, welcome back. I love it when people leave me comments on this thingamajig. So, if you have a moment, drop me a line! Or, better yet, give me a call! We're in the same time zone, so give me a ring!
The cultural assmebly on Friday afternoon was terrific. The k-3 kids sang It's A Small World. Those kindergarteners are so freakin' adorable. Then there were drums and dancing and poems and play and such. At the very end were some of my sixth graders doing a rap they had written about Egypt call "Egypt, Take a Trip, Take a Trip." These kids are amazing and I was real happy that I remembered some of their names.
Yesterday Katie and I walked around downtown. We went to Urban Outfitters and I got some stuff, including a great scarf for only 2.50. Then we went to this funky mall that, like the Sacramento mall, was outdoors. They had a Steve and Barry's store, which was incredible. For those of you who don't know what Steve and Barry's is, like I didn't before yesterday, they are a university apparel store that sells college stuff for super cheap. And they have other tee-shirts there too. I got 3 shirts for 20$. One of them says "Made in Ireland" and I've decided that, since I don't have any other strong heritage background, I'm just going to call myself Irish from now on. I'm faux Irish, if you will. We saw a dead body being carted into an ambulance. I don't know anything about the situation, but that was the first dead body I've seen, so I feel like I should record it here for posterity. Oh, I also got some yummy Chinese food for only 3 bucks, so that was a good part of the day too.
Today we did an ISP (independent service project) for a 5K and 15K race. I was at a water station and had a great time cheering on the runners and handing out water. It reminded me of the Hood to Coast when I'd be at Katy Mac's and we'd squirt the runners with squirt guns. The EMT that I was with at the station was part of the Search and Rescue team for SD and I got him to do the lights and sirens on his sherrif's SUV for a couple seconds. We helped clean up the starting line and got a whole bunch of free crap, including two more tee-shirts. I'm going to be coming home with t-shirts coming out of my ears! I love it.
Since tomorrow is President's day, we have tomorrow off. Before we came down here, one of the staff members of the Sac campus got us some free passes to 24hr Fitness. I think we are going to check that out. Tonight I'm going to see the movie Stomp the Yard. I love dance movies, so that should be fun.
Hope you don't mind all these long blogs. It's just that so much is happening that I feel the need to overdescribe. And yet, there is so much more to say. So until next time, kids...have fun and be safe.
