Hi friends! Happy Groundhog's Day! I don't know if the rodent saw his shadow or not and what that means, but the movie Groundhog's Day is a good one.
Today was the last day of Corps Institute Training, or CTI. I am so happy that we are done with the boring lectures and activities and the repetitiveness. I swear we hear the same things five times. We had an induction ceremony where the National President of NCCC spoke and we officially became Americorps members. Later today we will have a talent show and my team will be performing Joyful Joyful from Sister Act II. It'll be freakin' sweet!
Monday we take off for San Diego. It will be very sad to leave my new friends who are either staying in Sacramento, going to the Gulf, or going elsewhere. I can't wait to start working, though. I miss hanging out with kids. We will be doing in-class stuff to help the teachers, monitoring recesses, mentoring, and helping out with afterschool programs. The population of the school is 92 percent Latino, 7 percent African American and 1 percent white. I've never been in a situation where I was a minority, so I am excited and curious about this opportunity in that respect.
I don't know how often I will get internet access down there, so these may be few and far between. If you really want to know what is going on, give me a call! Ya'll have the number. If now, ask The Momma, she'll give it to you. Unless you smell, then I don't want to talk to you.
I've got to go get ready for the talent show. I'll try to post one more time before Monday. Later, gators!
