Hi folks! I am back in Sacramento from the team leader's MiniSpike (or mini project) with the Great Basin Institute by the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe doing trail work with the Nevada Conservation Corps. Not my ideal project...camping with no showers, freezing cold mornings and 10 hours a day of glorified yard work. But I survived three and a half days of it and am a better person for that. The project actually goes on until Friday, but two of my fellow team leaders who were also in the same class as I was as a corps member drove back early yesterday for our graduation.
Class 13 is over! After Thursday evening's graduation ceremony, I will no longer be a corps member. If I had not taken on another year of NCCC, I'd be coming home on Friday, finished with AmeriCorps. I was glad to see Kevin and Gabe from my team, and I am still seeing all the people I've become friends with over the past nine months. Everyone is back in Sac and, honestly, it is very sad to think that I will never see some of these people again. I am going to try hard to keep in contact with them, and with Facebook, that is easily done. But we are all going our separate ways now, off to the far stretches of the country. My new friends have been such a source of inspiration, laughter and love for me and have helped to make me into the current form of Jenna that you see today. There have been rough, icky spots this year for me, but the good outweighs the bad, and I will have fond memories of this year and the people I've met. And I have and will continue to grow from the icky stuff, so that is not without worth.
Anyway, I need to be off to a photojournalist meeting to turn in my camera and closeout that stuff. Hope all who read this are doing well. Love and miss!
