So, I've been at Camp Hope for a little over a week. Still trying to settle in here. Next week, the AmeriCorps teams from Denver and Perry Point will be leaving, so it will just be Sacramento teams here. That will be nice and perhaps a bit quieter.
So, my team started our real job here at Camp last Wednesday. Until the other team that makes dinner leaves, we are the breakfast crew. I wake up at 3:30 am and make and serve breakfast, clean up after the meal and prep food for the lunch salad bar. I'm done by noon, which gives me the whole rest of the day to do whatever. Despite getting up at the butt crack of dawn, I am liking this project. It's easy, we don't have to work in the ridiculously hot weather and we can listen to music all day. Things will get more hectic soon, tho. Once the other kitchen team leaves, my team will be responsible for breakfast AND dinner. And also, a few days after the teams leave, three of my teammates will be going to do a different project for high school kids doing service in New Orleans. So that will be six people to prepare two meals for lots and lots of people. I'm pretty concerned about this, but I know I just need to relax and trust that every thing will turn out ok.
Since last Friday, people from my team and I have been going over to the community/boxing gym that we had been working on while at Operation Blessing. You would not believe how different it looks from when we were working there three weeks ago. It is looking so great! They are having a big ribbon cutting/day of events this comming Saturday and my team and I are going and are going to do some independent service hours helping out at the event. This is a huge deal for the community and the corporate office of Operation Blessing is supposed to be there too. This means I might actually meet Pat Robertson. I wonder what they would do to me if I kicked him or threw a pie in his face???
Well, it is 8:15 pm, which means it is bedtime. Sick, huh? Early bedtimes stink. But, that's life, I guess. Adios friends!
